Yetta Tureck of Savannah, GA, formerly of Brooklyn, NY, and Delray Beach, FL,?? passed away at Buckingham South on August 27, 2021. ??She was 104 years old. Yetta was the beloved wife of 65 years of the late Michael Tureck and the devoted mother of Arlene (Joseph) Crystal of Castle Pines, CO, Jeff (Sharyn) Tureck of Springfield, VA, and Robin (Lester) Rackoff of Savannah, GA.?? She was the grandmother of seven and the great-grandmother of six.
Yetta was born in Brooklyn in 1917 to Mary and Kopel Helfand. Her five siblings all predeceased her. After graduating from Tilden High School, she went to work as a bookkeeper, where she met her future husband. In later years, she became a Medical Coder at Downstate Medical Center.
Yetta was always dressed to perfection, with a necklace to match every outfit. She never missed a week at the hairdresser, and she wouldn't leave her room without makeup. Even at 104 years old, she still polished her own nails. Yetta was always first to arrive for every activity at Buckingham South, whether it was Bingo, Brain Games, or Dominoes. When she wasn't in the Activity Room, you could find her sitting outside, working on her puzzle books.
Yetta loved volunteering at synagogue and going to weekly services. At the age of eighty, she learned to read Hebrew and proudly became a Bat Mitzvah. When Yetta moved to Savannah, she attended Congregation Agudath Achim as often as she could. She looked forward to Fridays when Rabbi Steven Henkin would come to Buckingham South with challahs and wine and have a Shabbat Sing-Along.
The family wants to thank Rita Slatus, Janet Sweeney, and everyone at Buckingham South for giving Yetta a wonderful home for nine years. Also, they are grateful for the compassionate care provided by the nurses of Pruitt Hospice, especially Tina, who said, 'I never met a person like Miss Yetta.' She definitely was one of a kind.
