William 'Billy' Joseph Powers III, 64, of Savannah, Georgia, died Monday evening, October 1, 2012, at Candler Hospital.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of Mary Handiboe Powers and the late William Joseph Powers, Jr. William was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was in insurance sales with Morris and Templeton Insurance Agency. William was a member of the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee for which he served as General Chairman in 1980 and 1981.?? He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael G. Powers and John A. Powers.
Surviving are his daughter, Catherine Blake Powers and her mother, Sandra H. Powers both of Savannah, Georgia; his mother, Mary Handiboe Powers of Savannah, Georgia; one sister, Anne Marie Powers of Savannah, Georgia; four brothers, Aloysius J. Powers, Daniel T. Powers, Vincent D. Powers,?? and Brian J. Powers, all of Savannah, Georgia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 6:30 Wednesday at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue, with the rosary service being held at 6:30 o'clock in the funeral home chapel.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church conducted by The Reverend Jeremiah J. McCarthy. Interment will be in the Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Powers, Joseph Powers, Fred Mercer, Chip Grayson, Paul Weber, Tony Alfonso, Charles Johnson, and Stephen Brennan.
