Dr. William J. (Billy) Alpert, 67, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Candler hospital.
A Savannah native, Billy was the son of the late Ben (Corky) Alpert and Sara Weil Alpert.?? He graduated from Savannah High, The University of Georgia, and The Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine.?? Billy practiced podiatry in Savannah for nearly three decades.?? A person of many interests and talents, his passion was music.?? For many years, Billy co-owned The Crossroads blues bar in City Market.?? Billy was a compassionate lover of animals and had a special place in his heart for misfits and musicians.?? Billy developed a love for the sport of hockey during his days in medical school in Chicago.?? He continued to play pick-up games locally and made many friends through the sport.
Billy is survived by his son, Maury A. Alpert and wife Kristin B. Alpert and their daughter Sarah; one stepson, Daniel Crovatt; one stepdaughter, Beth Crovatt Bethune (Ken); and great nieces, Lizzie and Evie Crovatt.?? Also surviving Billy is his life-long friend Grace Crovatt.
The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Ruven Barkan.
