William (Billy) Kleinpeter, 81, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 1st, following a long battle with heart and kidney disease. He was born to Beatrice Youmans Kleinpeter and Patrick W. Kleinpeter on April 7,1943, in Savannah, Georgia. Billy attended Charles Ellis Elementary, Washington Avenue Junior High and graduated from Savannah High in 1960. He attended the University of Georgia earning a business degree and continued his education, at LSU where he earned a banking degree. He was employed with The Savannah Bank and Trust, Coastal Bank, and later worked with SBA loans. Billy also worked in real estate and with Gamble Funeral Service in later years.
In 1966, Billy married his high school sweetheart Kathy Argust. He is survived by a son William Barrow (Barry) Kleinpeter (Jennifer), and two daughters Kami Johnson (Bill) and Susie Grames (Robby). He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Claire and Wilson Johnson, Katie, Barry, and Brooks Kleinpeter, and Will, Micah, Mary Noel, Mollie and Isaiah Grames, as well as several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Billy was also known for his love of God, family, and sports. As a youth he played baseball and football. His love of ball was passed on to his children and grandchildren, many who excelled in sports. His favorite pastime was to go to every practice and game they had. He was a big UGA and Braves fan. Billy was a member of the Savannah Jaycees and the Savannah Quarterback Club for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Pat Kleinpeter. He was of the Christian faith and before his last illness, was attending Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church of Savannah.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Old Savannah City Mission or Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church of Savannah.
The family will receive friends Sunday, October 13, 2024 from 3 o'clock until 4 o'clock in the afternoon at Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church, 10050 Ferguson Avenue, Savannah. Services will follow at 4 o'clock in the afternoon at the church.
