SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - William "Gator" Franklin Hodges, 79, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Milligan Hodges, died Sunday evening, May 13, 2012, at his home.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Ernest Cleo Hodges and the late Helen De Lorge Hodges. Mr. Hodges was of the Catholic faith. He was a graduate of Benedictine Military School and was in the finance and mortgage business for many years. Mr. Hodges was a decorated United States Marine Corps veteran having served in "Dog Company" during the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Milligan Hodges of Savannah, Georgia; one daughter, Elizabeth Patrice Powers and her husband, Danny, of Savannah, Georgia; two sons, Charles "Chuck" Thomas Hodges and his wife, Leigh Ann, and David William Hodges, all of Savannah, Georgia; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Powers Nichols and her husband, Frank, and Catherine Powers Smith and her husband, Wes; one great-granddaughter, Mary Kathryn Smith; one brother-in-law, John V. Burke, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service, with full military honors, will be held at 11 o'clock this (Tuesday) morning at the graveside, Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by The Reverend Patrick S. O'Brien.
