William Robert 'Bob' Emsweller, 97, went to meet his Lord on September 8, 2016.
Bob was a son of the late Doyle Emsweller and the late Merle Thelma Lockwood Emsweller. He was a native of Franklin County, Indiana, where he lived his early childhood, in and near Laurel, Indiana. At an early age he moved to Indianapolis with his parents, spending the next 7 years farming with his father. Following this time the family returned to Laurel to operate a Standard Oil service station. 2 years later he met his future bride, Rosemary Jones. The two married October 6, 1940. When World War II broke out, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy. He served 7 months at Armed Guard Receiving Station in Brooklyn, N. H. The remainder of the war he was stationed in Pearl Harbor. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he and Rosemary bought a home in Connersville, Indiana where he spent the next 5 years as a machinist. Bob and his family moved to Brookville, Indiana to open and operate a new Standard Oil station. In December, 1951, he sold his business and enrolled in the Cincinnati Bible Seminary, earning a Bachelor of Sacred Literature degree. Together, they served Churches of Christ in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, New York, and Georgia. His last service was the Church of Christ of Savannah on Middleground Road.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Linda Gail Perry Emsweller; a sister, Carolyn, and a brother, Carson.
Surviving are two sons, Jerry Robert Emsweller and Daniel Mark Emsweller and his wife, Pat; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
A graveside service will be held in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville, Indiana.
