William 'Willie' James Dyer, Jr., 58, of Fleming, Georgia, husband of Joy Witherington Dyer, died Tuesday evening, November 7, 2017, at his home.



Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late William James Dyer, Sr. and the late Annie Mae Lanier Dyer. Willie was a communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. He graduated from Memorial Day School. Willie retired from M. J. Hogan as a line handler and later worked for Kroger in Richmond Hill. He was a member of the Savannah St. Patrick's Day Committee, the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Knight, and the Irish Heritage Society. Willie was a former volunteer firefighter for Tybee Island Fire Department.



In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lynda Hancock Dyer and her husband, George, and Kay Gnann and her husband, Tommy.



Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Joy Witherington Dyer; two daughters, Heather Santos and her husband, Alex, and Jamie Anchors and her husband, Richard; one son, William 'Billy' James Dyer III; four grandchildren, Marshall Mills, Cam Mills, Allison Mills and Gordon Carmichael; two sisters, Julia Strickland and her husband, Larry, and Cindy Townsend and her husband, Gerald, and several nieces and nephews.



The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o\'clock Thursday at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 o'clock Friday morning at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church conducted by Monsignor P. James Costigan. Interment will be in Bonaventure Cemetery.
