Willard Ray Melton, 81, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Nancy Aleen Smith Melton, died Wednesday afternoon, May 21, 2014, at Hospice Savannah.



Born in Black Mountain, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Horace Melton and the late Olive Huntley Melton. Mr. Melton served 12 years in the United States Air Force, leaving at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He retired from M & M Supermarkets and Kroger Supermarkets. Mr. Melton was a former member of Epworth United Methodist Church, where he was the Scoutmaster of Troop 13 from 1972 to 1980.



In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth 'Lump' Davis, and four brothers, James Melton, Luther Melton, Edward Melton and Robert Melton.



Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Nancy Aleen Smith Melton of Savannah, Georgia; one daughter, Sandra Melton Scott and her husband, Paul, of Louisville, Kentucky; one son, Ronald Melton of Savannah, Georgia; and one granddaughter, Darcy Melton, and a number of nieces and nephews.



The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 Friday evening at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Nathan C. Godley and The Reverend William G. Hester. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
