Wiley Anderson Wasden, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, January 18, just a few days shy of his eightieth birthday. As he would tell anyone he met, Wiley was born in Millen, Georgia, to the late Wiley Anderson Wasden and Katherine Carr Wasden. He graduated from the Baylor School, and moved to Savannah in 1953. He attended the University of Georgia, was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, and was a longstanding, active member of the Republican Party. He served as the Chairman of the Georgia State Republican Party, was a Georgia State Senator from Chatham County, and served in various advisory roles for the national GOP as well as party leaders across the State. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Savannah Country Day School and was an avid Hornets fan. Throughout his career, he felt fortunate to work with local businesses including the C&S Bank and Palmer and Cay Real Estate. He retired from Keller Williams Real Estate in 2014. He was also an active member at Saint John's Episcopal Church.



He was preceded in death by his wife of almost forty years, Judy, and his sister, Alice Wasden Carr.



He is survived by his children, Wiley Anderson Wasden, III, and his wife Anna, of Savannah, Georgia; Robert Hancock Stolz, and his wife, Anne, of Charlotte, North Carolina; Mary Bell Vaughn of Macon, Georgia; Katherine Elizabeth Wasden of New York, New York; Carr Wasden Doerre, and her husband Matt, of Charlotte, North Carolina; and his grandchildren Wiley Anderson Wasden IV, Edward Christensen Wasden, Harrison Hunter Wasden, Robert Hancock Stolz, Jr., Mary Gray Stolz, and Daniel Russell Vaughn III.



His family would like to express gratitude to the doctors, nurses, therapists, and caregivers who helped give Wiley the long and full life he felt so fortunate to have, particularly the physicians and staff of St. Joseph's Hospital and Candler Hospital, Hospice Savannah, Inc., and Lisa Davis.



The family will receive friends at 209 Fiddlers Bend, Isle of Hope between 5-7 pm on Friday, January 20.



The funeral service will be held at half past noon on Saturday, January 21 at St. John\'s Church conducted by The Reverend Gavin G. Dunbar and The Reverend Craig E. O\'Brien. Interment will be at 4 o\'clock Saturday afternoon in Millen City Cemetery in Millen, Georgia.
