Wesley Allen Meadows, 64, retired Chief and General Manager of Southside Fire/EMS & Security, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Delilah Miller Meadows, died Thursday morning, December 15, 2016, at St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born in Newnan, Georgia, he was a son of the late Lamar Baron Meadows and the late Wynella Stapler Meadows. Wesley began as a volunteer firefighter for Coweta County Fire Department and as a career firefighter for the City of Newnan Fire Department and served there for 17 years before leaving Newnan as a Captain in 1987 to begin his career with Southside Fire Department. He joined Southside Fire Department in 1988 having retired in 2014. Wesley served the last 16 years as Chief. The goal he successfully achieved was to provide the best fire and emergency medical services to Chatham County and do that with a 'family-like atmosphere' department. Wesley received a Class A Valor Award from the Governor of Georgia for his rescue of two young children during a fire in a second floor apartment. He also received a Special Presidential Award and proclamation from then Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine. Wesley was a member and former president of the Southeastern Association of Fire Chiefs and member and past president of the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs.
