Warren McGregor Caphton, 87, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Wilma Elrod Caphton, passed away very peacefully Monday morning, March 25, 2013, surrounded by family at Candler Hospital, after battling Multiple Myeloma for almost two years.
Warren was born and raised in Savannah, GA.?? He served in the Navy during World War II, and after his tour of duty attended Young Harris College where he met and married his college sweetheart.?? Warren continued his education finishing his graduate degrees at George Peabody College.?? After working as a teacher, he moved on to work as a school administrator.?? He retired in 1987 from the Liberty County School System and moved back to his boyhood home on Isle of Hope. For over 20 years he was a member of Southside Baptist Church and for the past 4 years he has been a member of?? Isle of Hope Baptist Church. Over the years, he served his church in many capacities including Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, and deacon. He was also involved in the Lions Club, Kiwanis Club, and programs at the YMCA.?? He enjoyed shrimping, crabbing, boating, gardening, and most of all spending time with his family.
Warren is survived by his wife of 64 years, Wilma Elrod Caphton; five children, Warren David Caphton (Jeannie), Lois Caphton Cowart (Richard), Stephen Ross Caphton (Jeanie), Stanley Lloyd Caphton (Pam), and Sharon Caphton Fruits (Merlin); eight grandchildren, Vanessa Cook (Jim), Allison Tibbs (Matt), Ross Caphton (Sarah), Ashley Cowart, Lauren Caphton, Zach Cowart, Drew Caphton, and Alysha Fruits; five great- grandchildren, and his brother, Donald Lewis Caphton (Martha),
The family will receive friends from 12 until 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service. Interment will be in Laurel Grove ' North Cemetery.
