Walter Carl Harman, 94, passed away on March 13, 2022, after a short illness.
He was born September 8, 1927, in Lebanon, TN to Walter Earl and Austelle Moser Harman. He graduated from Savannah High School in 1946 and shared many happy memories of playing on the Blue Jacket's football team. After graduation, he attended Armstrong College and the University of Georgia. While at UGA, he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and graduated with a degree in Landscape Architecture. On June 13, 1953, he married Barbara Jean Surrency at First Baptist Church. They lived in the Magnolia Park neighborhood for over 30 years, bringing up three children. Carl and Barbara were members of Calvary Baptist Temple and were blessed to have lifelong, treasured friends.
The Harmans had enterprising spirit, and Carl, along with his father and brother, started their own business ' Harman Motors. The car dealership on the corner of Montgomery and Charlton Streets was a Savannah fixture for more than 50 years, and many generations of local families bought cars from there. Harman Motors was one of the oldest family-run businesses in Savannah and became a familiar landmark in the downtown district. As a young man, he was active in the business community and was a member of the Kiwanis, Rotary and Sertoma Clubs. He dearly loved his UGA Bulldogs, and one of his greatest joys was attending football games. He was witty, mischievous, and enjoyed life, but he was also a man of his word who put family first. Carl was the ideal husband to Barbara, caring for her as she battled Alzheimer's disease and never leaving her side. He was the best husband, father, and 'Papa' to his family.

Eric Harman (Nancy), Mrs. Lisa Harman Moore (Craig), Mrs. Lynn Harman Alexander (Glenn); four grandchildren, Mr. Brian Harman (Kelly), Dr. Scott Harman (Laurel), Mr. Matthew Moore (Olivia), Miss Carlie Moore; four great-grandchildren, Cooper Marie Harman, Walter Harman, Easton Harman, Waylon Harman; and several nieces and nephews.
