Walker Allen 'Sam' O'Neal, 83, formerly of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Audrey Maree Hartloge O'Neal, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his wife, daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter Saturday evening, August 20, 2022, at his home in Iron Station, North Carolina.
Born in Florence, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Seavy Highsmith O'Neal, Sr. and the late Lelia Jones O'Neal. Sam was a longtime member of Islands Community Church. He was a United States Army veteran. Sam retired after serving many years as a pastor. He also retired after a long career in professional funeral vehicle sales during which time he met many customers who became close friends. He was known for his knowledge of vehicles, his integrity, fairness, and a great sense of humor, but most importantly his love for the Lord.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Audrey Maree Hartloge O'Neal; his daughter, Lisa O'Neal Bean and her husband, Sammy; his granddaughter, Sarah Maree Bean; and nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Thursday, August 25, 2022, at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Friday morning, August 26, 2022, in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by the Reverend M. Douglas Patterson. Interment, with military honors, will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
