With deepest sadness, we announce the passing of our mother, Virginia Reed Hopper Connerat, 94, on April 4, 2013, at the MargaretMcLaughlinMcCarrickCareCenter in Somerset, NJ.
Mrs. Connerat was born in Mt. Sterling, KY on November 2, 1918 to Garnette (Robinson) and Walter Owsley Hopper. She graduated in 1940 from Mt.HolyokeCollege in South Hadley, MA with a BA in English Composition. While her life's primary focus was providing a loving home for her husband George and their children, her charitable work enriched the communities where she lived. When she lived in Manhasset (Long Island), NY (1954-1966), her volunteer activities included translating English into Braille and working at Abilities, Inc, an organization dedicated to preparing adolescents and adults with all types of disabilities for entry into the workforce. When she lived in Essex, CT (1966-2003), she was an active member of the Essex Garden Club, taking a term as its president, the OldLymeArtAcademy, the League of Women Voters, and the Junior League of New Haven. She was an avid bridge player who brought home trophies from tournaments at the Old Lyme Country Club.
Surviving Mrs. Connerat are her daughter, Robin Connerat, of Pennington, NJ, son, George, his wife Jeanne, and granddaughters Kristen and Elizabeth of New Providence, NJ. She was predeceased in 2006 by her husband of 60 years, George Hillyer Connerat.
Interment will be on June 29 at the Connerat family plot in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA.
