Veronica 'Ronnie' Mikowski Reetz, 79, of Savannah, Georgia, died Saturday morning, July 31, 2021, at Candler Hospital.



Born on February 22, 1942 at Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Lurline William Mikowski and Stanley 'Mike' Mikowski.



In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by several siblings.

Surviving are her sisters, Mary Ann Mikowski Byrnes and Lurline Mikowski Rossi; her four children, Lurline Buerkle MacArthur and her husband, John MacArthur, Royce Reetz Jr, Joyce Machowski and her husband, Frank Machowski, and Robert Reetz and his wife, Karen Reetz; grandchildren, Frank Machowski and his wife, Amanda Machowski, Anna Witz and her husband, Joe Witz, Robert Reetz, Jr., Alexis Reetz Rhodes and her husband, Danny Rhodes, Jackson Reetz, Beth Buerkle Marino and her husband, Joseph Marino, and Thomas Buerkle III; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Boyer, Frank Machowski III., Joe Witz, Jr, Joshua Witz, Abbigail Witz, Luke Rhodes, Cora Marino and Nico Marino.



In 1959 Veronica married Royce Reetz, who was serving as a United States Airman at Hunter Airforce Base. After the birth of their first child, Royce and Ronnie moved to Detroit Michigan, where their family grew. After two plus decades of marriage they divorced, and Ronnie returned back to her beloved Savannah.



Ronnie was known for her southern hospitality, kindness and helpful spirit. For nearly 20 years she was a fixture at the Wilmington YMCA greeting guests and customers as they entered.



One of her greatest passions was to help US veterans by driving from Savannah to the Veterans Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina. In 2018 President Donald J. Trump bestowed an achievement award to her for lifelong commitment to building a stronger nation though volunteers service.



The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 o'clock Thursday, August 5, 2021, and from 1 until 2 o'clock Friday, August 6, 2021, at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, August 6, 2021, in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by Sister Terentia Hynes. Interment will be private.
