Vernon Mosheim

April 26, 1928 — February 22, 2025

Savannah

It is with deep sadness that C. Robert Friedman and family share with you the loss of his spouse, Vernon Mosheim. He passed February 22, 2025 in Savannah Georgia, one month shy of his 97th birthday.

Vernon was born in Eldagsen Germany in 1928 and escaped the Nazi Holocaust, along with his parents and sister in 1938, immigrating with his family to the United States. He taught himself English by watching movies, and by spending time with his cousins here in the United States. He attended City College of New York majoring in Languages ( he was fluent in at least eight). He was named Phi Beta Kappa. He served honorably in the US Army during the Korean War.

Professionally, Vernon utilized his language skills in the travel industry, focusing on Eastern Europe and Asia. Much of his leisure time was spent at Lake Oscawanna in New York.

He had a deep love of opera, and was a volunteer with the New York City and Metropolitan Operas. He served as a translator for the Leo Beck Institute and was an active member of the United Restitution Organization — in support of Holocaust survivors.

Vernon & Robert had many adventures traveling the world together, they were married in 2011 when New York legalized same sex marriage. They wintered in Savannah enjoying the JEA and the thriving art community.

Robert and Stan (Robert’s brother) were with Vernon in his last moments as he passed peacefully. He is survived by his spouse Robert, stepsons Vidor and Daron Friedman, and many family and friends around the globe.

Vernon was an exceptionally generous, loving and kind man, who possessed a great sense of humor. His gentleness and humility will live on in the the hearts of those whose life he touched.

A 'Celebration of Life' will be announced in the future.
