Verna Mae Wilson Nesmith, 94, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of Ralph Carlton Nesmith, died Saturday evening, February 9, 2013, at Azalealand Nursing Home.
Born in Brooklet, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Cecil Wilson and Hattie Mae Wilson. Mrs. Nesmith and her husband were founding members of Memorial Baptist Church for more than 40 years and later joined Calvary Baptist Temple. She retired from Belk as a sales associate specializing in shoes and ladies apparel. Mrs. Nesmith later worked as a nursing assistant with Georgia Regional Hospital. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Carlton Nesmith and Dennis Nesmith, and her brother, Charles Wilson.
She is survived by her son, Ronald J. 'Ron' Nesmith and his wife, Becky, of Lakeland, Florida; her sister, Marjorie Gasper of Sarasota, Florida; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Kenny Grant. Interment will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
