Vascoe Samuel Spilliards Jr., 77, of Wilmington Island, passed away peacefully Friday evening with his sons at his bedside.
Known as Sammy to his friends and family, he was a Savannah native and a 1961 graduate of Groves High School. Sam ??served in the U.S. Coast Guard and then worked as a general contractor in the greater Savannah community. Up until his passing he worked throughout the low country as a licensed real estate appraiser and was also a member of the Wilmington Island United Methodist Church.
Sam would never retire, always had things to do and goals to accomplish. He thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren, and was a true friend of few but those who knew him could count on him.?? He will be missed by friends and family.
Sam is preceded in death by his father, Vascoe Samuel, and mother, Elizabeth Helmy.
He is survived by his sons, Troy, Timothy, and Todd, who blessed him with seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; his older brother, Leon Spilliards of Hiram, Georgia; and niece, Heather Spilliards Edwards of Marietta, Georgia.
With concern for the health and safety of family and friends, a memorial service is not planned at this time.
