TSgt Carl Albert Thompson, Jr., U. S. Air Force (Ret.), 76, of Savannah, Georgia, died Wednesday afternoon, March 7, 2018, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Carl Albert Thompson, Sr. and the late Edna Ard Kearney Thompson Wall. Carl was of the Christian faith. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Armstrong State College. Carl served four years in the United States Air Force and then sixteen years in the Georgia Air National Guard. He later retired as an intake officer for the Georgia Department of Corrections. Carl was a member of the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee for more than 50 years. Carl was a longtime member of the Dixieland Cruisers and a former member of the Jaycees and Rotary Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Edward Kearney.
Survivors include his niece, AnnMarie Kiel and her husband, Matthew 'Matt', of Savannah and Bridgeton, New Jersey; his great-nephews, Daniel Swadis and Michael Swadis, and his great-nieces, Jaclyn Moore and Christine Moore.
The family will receive friends from 9 until 10 o'clock Sunday morning at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service, with full military honors, will be held at 10:30 Sunday morning at the graveside, Hillcrest Abbey ' East, conducted by The Reverend Dr. Drew Corbett.
