TSgt Morris Lani Broussard, U. S. Air Force (Ret.), 81, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Evelyn Clyde Broussard, died Tuesday evening, February 17, 2015, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Born in Kaneohe, Hawaii, he was a son of the late Morris Ural Broussard and the late Belle Butler Broussard. Morris was a member of Calvary Baptist Temple. He was a United States Air Force veteran having served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. For his military service he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, the Presidential Award and the National Defense Service Medal with 1 Battle Service Star. While in Vietnam, he received the Bronze Star Medal. TSgt Broussard retired as a recruiter and, in 1972, earned the Top Recruiter award from the Air Force. He later retired as a housing inspector for the civil service at Hunter Army Airfield. Morris received the Outstanding Service Award from Chatham Association for Mentally Challenged for his efforts in funding and building the first six group homes in our area. He was an advocate for community service having been a member of the Southside Lions Club where he served as a Past President, and the Savannah Jaycees where he received the Presidential Award (1966) and the Key Man Award (1967). Morris was a fifty-one year Mason and Past Master of Solomon's Lodge #1 F & AM, a 33' Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the York Rite. He was a member of Alee Temple where he was Past President of the Ritualistic Divan. Morris was active in the National Sojourners which was formed to assist displaced military Masons who sought each other's company, counsel and aid. He was Past President of the Southeastern Ritual Cast Association. Morris was Impresario for the Jesters, Savannah Court #134, where he was granted Emeritus status for his 27 years of loyal and distinguished service. Above all, Morris loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas 'Tommy' Lani Broussard, and a brother-in-law, Richard Dudley.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Evelyn Clyde Broussard of Savannah, Georgia; one daughter, Lynda Broussard Jones and her husband, Glenn, of Savannah, Georgia; two grandchildren, Meghan Jones Newell and her husband, Daniel, and J. Blake Jones; one brother, Richard Broussard of Kingman Arizona; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Shuman and her husband, Mike, Patricia Stafford and her husband, Elton, and Joanne Dudley, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Friday evening at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by Pastor Kenny Grant. Interment, with full military honors, will be in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park ' West.
