TSgt Thomas Edmond 'Tom' Flaherty III, U. S. Air Force (Ret.), 81, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Ann Hebert Flaherty, died Friday morning, August 29, 2014, at Candler Hospital.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Thomas Edmond Flaherty, Jr. and the late Helen Sparks Flaherty Ashmore. TSgt Flaherty was of the Catholic faith. He retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service as a Technical Sergeant. During part of his military career he was a Master Blaster who diffused bombs during the Korean Conflict. TSgt Flaherty enjoyed crossword puzzles, coin and stamp collecting, and gardening.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Ann Hebert Flaherty of Savannah; one son, Thomas E. 'Tom' Flaherty IV and his wife, Wendi, of Surprise, Arizona; two daughters, Sarah DeWalt of Savannah and Mary F. Kimmer and her husband, Eddie, of Rincon; one brother, Ray Flaherty and his wife, Sarah, of Savannah, and five grandchildren, Christopher Kimmer, Stephanie Kimmer, Carrie Anne Tidwell, Megan Tidwell and Chloe Flaherty.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 o'clock Tuesday at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be at 6 o'clock Tuesday evening in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Patrick S. O'Brien. Interment, with full military honors, will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
