Thomas 'Tom' Cornelius Murphy, 70, of Guyton, Georgia and husband of Lenora Sills Murphy, died Tuesday afternoon, January 2, 2018, at Candler Hospital.



Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Joseph Francis Murphy and the late Jane Somers Murphy. Tom was of the Catholic faith. He was a United States Army veteran. Tom retired as a Sergeant after 28 years with the Savannah Police Department and later worked 7 years for the Effingham County Sheriff's Department. He was a hard worker who was an outstanding husband, father, grandfather.



Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Lenora Sills Murphy of Guyton; one daughter, Jennifer Murphy-Mason and her husband, Dustin, of Guyton; four sons, Charles 'Charlie' Murphy and his wife, Candace, of Savannah, Thomas C. Murphy IV and his wife, Debbi, of Auburn, Maine, William 'Billy' C. Murphy of Savannah and Brian Murphy of Guyton; seven grandchildren, Katherine Stettler and her husband, James, Emily Murphy, Joseph Murphy, Thomas Murphy, Austin Murphy, Cooper Murphy and Molly Mason; one brother, Joseph Francis Murphy of Savannah, and other loving relatives and friends.



The family will receive friends from 9 until 10 Friday morning at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Friday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Patrick S. O'Brien. Interment will be at 1 o\'clock Monday afternoon in the Catholic Cemetery.
