ROTONDA WEST, FLORIDA - Thomas "Tom" Wesley Butler, 74, of Rotonda West, Florida, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2010.
Born June 23, 1935, in Wilkes County, Georgia, he was the son of the late Eva (Nell) and Lemuel  (L.M.) Butler.  He was a Lincolnton High School Graduate class of 1953 who played on the Varsity Football Team.  Following graduation, he served his country in the United States Air Force from 1953 until his retirement in 1974.  Following his military career, he majored in Business Administration at Augusta Community College.  Soon after, he began his second career with the Federal Government at the CDC in Atlanta, Georgia. He did extensive traveling as a Medical Records Administrator conducting audits on civilian hospitals.  He later transferred to Fort McPherson, Georgia as the Medical Records Administrator for Fort McPherson Army Health Clinic.  On January 28, 1983, Tom married his wife Marjorie Lynn Brewer in Atlanta, Georgia. He retired from Fort McPherson Health Clinic in October 1999.  In November 2001, Tom and Margie moved to Rotonda West, Florida to enjoy their grandchildren. Tom enjoyed golfing, reading, fishing, gardening, his animals, and Friday nights at the Elks.  He was a member of the Elks Lodge 2710 and the American Legion Post 113.  Tom was Post Commander of the American Legion Post in Douglasville, Georgia.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Marjorie B. Butler of Rotonda West, Florida; two daughters Sherrie (Richard) Hill of Columbia, South Carolina, and Leesa Burney of Augusta, Georgia; one son Randal "Randy" (Krista) Butler of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; stepchildren William "Billy" (Robin) Kicklighter, Jr. of Brunswick, Georgia, and Lynn (Mark) Anderson of Rotonda West, Florida; daughter-in-law, Peg Kicklighter of Savannah, Georgia; two sisters, Audrey Butler and Kathryn Dill, both of Rotonda West, Florida; seven grandchildren, Ashley and Amber Kicklighter, both of Atlanta, Georgia, William Joseph "Joey" and Savanna Kicklighter, both of Brunswick, Georgia, Christopher Kicklighter of Savannah, Georgia, and Mark and Madison Anderson, both of Rotonda West, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lemuel (L. M.) and Eva (Nell) Butler; his brothers Gerald (Pete) Butler, Henry (H.M.) Butler and Albea Butler; his sisters, Gene Huguley and Esther Bodie, and his stepson, Gary Allen Kicklighter.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 until 1:30 o'clock Friday at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah, Georgia.
The funeral service, with full military honors, will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the graveside, Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by The Reverend Dr. Samuel W. Watkins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Huguley, Jerry Butler, Marion Butler, Richard Butler, Wayne Helwig, Joey Kicklighter, and Mark Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Philanthropy Department of Tidewell Hospice - 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, Florida 34238 or a charity of the donor's choice.
