We are sad to announce that Arris Patterson \"Pat\" Nowell passed away in Savannah, Georgia, on September 4, 2022 at the age of 89. He was born on July 24, 1933 in Jackson Mississippi. His parents were Eunice and Anton Arnis Nowell.
After graduation from Forest Hills High School, he attended Mississippi College and Tennessee Temple University. He completed a master's degree in psychology from Baylor University in Waco Texas, and went on to complete a doctorate in theology from the New Orleans Baptist theological seminary.
He met his wife, Nancy (Weathers), of Stephenville Texas, while preparing for the ministry and serving churches across central Texas. He pastored Baptist churches in Mississippi, first in Brookhaven, then in Tunica, Soso, Collins, and Bethel. He served as minister to senior adults in Clarksville, Tennessee, and served as interim pastor to churches around Clarksville before full retirement. He has lived for the past 10 years in Savannah Georgia with his wife, Nancy, his daughter Patricia Inman, his son-in-law Graham Inman, and his grandsons.
Dr. Nowell attended Baptist churches in the Jackson Mississippi area as a boy, and at age 18 made his profession of faith after attending a Rev. Billy Graham crusade. He and Nancy Lee Weathers were married on May 29, 1960, in Gatesville, Texas. They couple lived in Texas before making their home in Mississippi, where they raised three children.
Dr. Nowell is remembered as a direct and powerful preacher, and he took delight in the relational aspects of pastoral ministry such as home and hospital visitation, innovative youth activities and adventures, and personal ministry to church and community members around vital moments in their lives - weddings, childbirth, illness, as well as dying or losing a family member. When he was not busy with the activities of ministry or parenting, he enjoyed tracking down waterfalls and other natural features. On these occasions, he was rarely without his camera. His family enjoyed displaying his photography, and he received awards for some of his favorite photos.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Nowell, and their three children David Nowell, Melody Link, and Patricia Inman. He also leaves three grandsons: Grayson, Will, and Joshua Inman.
