Sylvia Jean Lanier Maybaugh, 75, of Savannah, Georgia, and wife of Jon Ray Maybaugh, died Thursday evening, February 13, 2020, at Memorial University Medical Center.
Born in Augusta, Georgia, she was a daughter to the late Alan Claude Lanier and the late Edna Erselle Wilfong Lanier. Sylvia graduated from Hephzibah High School and went on to earn her nursing license from Augusta Technical College. She worked in Augusta for several years at the Georgia War Veterans Hospital before moving to Tybee Island where she met her husband. She and Jon, her husband of 28 years, met on Wilmington Island over a cup of coffee. Sylvia continued her nursing career in Savannah, retiring after ten years from Memorial University Medical Center. She was a member of Chapel by the Sea Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Lanier.
Survivors include her husband, Jon Ray Maybaugh; daughter, Dana Whitaker and her husband Kent; sisters, Judi Kelley and her husband Ron, and Joy Pohjalainen; brother John Lanier and his wife Gracie; grandsons, Tucker and Tyson Whitaker; nephews, Roy Minton, Sean Pohjalainen, and nieces, Rachael Lanier and Michelle Hosti.
