Stephen Halperin, DMD, 78, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Rhoda Faivus Halperin, died Thursday afternoon, February 2, 2017, at Hospice Savannah.



Born in New York, New York and growing up in New Jersey, he was a son of the late Milton Halperin and the late Norma Goldman Halperin. Dr. Halperin was a member of Congregation Mickve Israel. He graduated from Teaneck High School in New Jersey where he was an exceptional baseball player. Also, Dr. Halperin graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and Temple University Dental School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a United States Air Force veteran stationed in Albany, Georgia. Dr. Halperin completed his residency and internship in oral and maxillofacial surgery at New York University. With oral surgery practices in both Ridgewood and Wayne, New Jersey for over 40 years, Dr. Halperin served as the President of the New Jersey Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Upon retiring in 2008, he and Rhoda moved to The Landings in Savannah, Georgia. Dr. Halperin loved his family, playing golf, and his involvement with Backpack Buddies.



Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Rhoda Faivus Halperin of Savannah, Georgia; one daughter, Shelly H. Glenn and her husband, Jack, of Lakewood Ranch, Florida; two sons, Kenneth J. Halperin and his wife, Judi, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Andrew F. Halperin and his wife, Brenda Burnell, of Boulder, Colorado; four grandchildren, Benjamin Halperin, Meredith Halperin, Sarah Halperin and Haley Halperin; one sister, Joan Klein and her husband, Warren, of Boynton Beach, Florida; one brother, Stewart Halperin and his wife, Susan Spiegel, of St. Louis, Missouri; six nieces and nephews, Ronald Oestreich, Gary Oestreich, Larry Klein, Lori Messinger, Bill Klein and Rebecca Chao; and his sister-in-law, Joann Oestreich of Rancho Dominguez, California.



The funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday, February 5th at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Robert W. Haas. Following, a memorial service will be held at 4:30 Sunday afternoon at Congregation Mickve Israel.
