BLOOMINGDALE, GEORGIA - SSG William B. Hood, U.S. Army (Ret.), 80, of Bloomingdale, Georgia and formerly of Bolivar, Missouri, died Wednesday afternoon, January 18, 2012, at Hospice Savannah.
Born in Goodson, Missouri, he was a son of the late Johnny Hood and the late Mary Eunice Catlet Hood.  He retired from the United States Army after 20 years of service. Over his many years of service in the United States Army, SSG Hood received the Bronze Star Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), Distinguished Unit Emblem, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Presidential Unit Citation, Two Overseas Bars, National Defense Service Medal and Expert (Rifle M-16A1).
Surviving are two daughters, Diane Constance Hood Johnson and her husband, Eddie, of Bloomingdale, Georgia and Kathryn Hood Jones of Savannah, Georgia; one son, Richard Paul Hood and his wife, Michelle, of Richmond Hill, Georgia; four grandchildren, Justin Johnson, Jennifer Collins, Lisa Hood and Michael Baldwin; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Hood of California and one sister, Elizabeth Runion of Phoenix, Arizona.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Friday at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service, with full military honors, will be held at 12 noon Saturday in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend David S. Templeton, Jr.
A graveside service will be held at 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in Payne Cemetery in Bolivar, Missouri.
