SMSgt Louis 'Lou' Augustus Richardson, 92, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of June Hatfield Richardson, died Friday afternoon, April 12, 2013, at Buckingham South and under the care of Hospice Advantage.
Born in Savannah, SMSgt Richardson graduated from the Marist School, Benedictine Military School, and attended St. Charles College in Catonsville, Maryland. He joined the Army Air Corps in April 1942 and retired after 33 years. Lou was stationed in various overseas locations such as Germany, The Aleutian Islands, Newfoundland and Vietnam, in addition to military bases within the U. S. His military decorations include the Bronze Star, six Air Force Commendation Medals, the Joint Services Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit award and others.
After retiring from the Air Force he was employed for 22?? years with the City of Savannah including 18 years with the Chatham County/Savannah Recorders Court.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bruce, and his grandson, Phillip.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, June Hatfield Richardson of Savannah, Georgia; one daughter, Karen (Robert) Scogin of Goose Creek, South Carolina; three sons, Ronald R. Richardson of Savannah, Georgia, David W. Richardson of Summerville, South Carolina, and Bryan D. Richardson of Syracuse, New York; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral service, with full military honors, will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning, April 20th, in the Hunter Army Airfield Chapel conducted by Father Romeo Axalan. Private interment was held in the Catholic Cemetery.
