Sible Brown Whitley, aged 89, passed into eternal rest on August 5th at home in Savannah. She was born on December 11, 1925 in Sylvania, Georgia, the daughter of the late George Wycliffe Brown and the late Georgia Rogers Brown.



She married Willis Thomas Whitley in 1942 and remained his wife for 58 years until his death. During WWII, she worked as a welder on Liberty ships at the SE Shipyard in Savannah. She worked at Union Camp Corporation for many years and then trained to be an LPN. She was a nurse for over 30 years. She worked at Memorial Hospital for 18 years in the pharmacy until she retired. She and her husband were early members of DeRenne Avenue Church of God, now Coastal Cathedral, where she served as a faithful member for 67 years. She had a love for visiting the sick in the Church and did so weekly until she was too infirm to continue. She loved sewing, reading Scripture, cooking and fishing. Her greatest passion was in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ to others.



She is survived by her children, Billy Ray Whitley (Liz) of Rincon, Jaki Whitley Gatch of Savannah, Wayne Thomas Whitley (Glenda) of Rincon, Cheryl Whitley Pass (Tony); grandchildren: Allison Hartley (Steve), Lee Whitley (Anna), Joy Padgett (Jarrod), Darlene Whitley, Jesse L. Petrea (Brianna), Brett T. Petrea (Stacy), Ami Zipperer (Corbin), Heather Jones (Steve), Wayne Whitley, Jr., Waylon Whitley, Tony Pass, Jr. (Tiffany), Rusty Pass, Chanda McCampbell (Danny); 26 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren, and special family friend Martha Horgan.



The family will receive friends from 11 until 1 o'clock Saturday morning at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock Saturday in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Alton Carter. Interment will be in Hillcrest Abbey East.
