Shirley Ann Smith

Shirley Ann Tullis Smith, 87, of Pooler, Georgia, widow of Hoyt Smith, Jr., died Sunday morning, March 9, 2025, at 11:40 a.m.

Born in Savannah, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Clyde Tom Tullis and Grace Hiott Tullis. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Savannah Holy Church of God, where she served in prayer ministry and visitation of the sick and elderly. She retired as a receptionist and dental assistant for Dr. William E. Taylor.

Mrs. Smith was admired by many for her unyielding strength of character, dedication to her faith, and impeccable example of holy living for her family and friends. Her interests included maintaining flowers and plants, spending time with her family, enjoying foods such as oysters and desserts, and contributing to charitable causes. Having spent most of her life in Savannah, Georgia, Mrs. Smith was known for pointing out the unique history of sites around the city to her descendants.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Ann Smith, two sons, Ricky Smith and Roger W. Smith, two sisters, Betty Stephens and Mary Lou Banks, one brother, Clyde Tullis, Jr., and one great-grandchild, Clayton Key.

Surviving are two daughters, Wanda Ilami of Pooler, Georgia, and Eva Marie Cramer and her husband, Gerald, of Bluffton, South Carolina; one son, Jeffrey Smith and his wife Kathy, of Statesboro, Georgia; one brother, Jack Tullis and his wife, Bea, of Richmond Hill, Georgia; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 o’clock Friday afternoon, March 14, 2025, at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah, Georgia.

Funeral service will be held at 1 o’clock Friday afternoon, March 14, 2025, in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by Reverends Dennis Morgan and Ryan Ralston. Interment will be in Bonaventure Cemetery.
