Shannon Floyd Butler died Friday November 11, 2022 in Savannah, Georgia.



Shannon was born in Augusta, Georgia on April 26, 1940 to Lloyd S. and Frances F. Scott of Augusta and was the oldest of their four daughters. She was a graduate of Georgia Southern College with a BS in Education and a Masters from Armstrong and EdD from Georgia Southern University.



She moved to Savannah after graduating from Georgia Southern and for over 35 years was a teacher at Savannah Christian Preparatory School and later Hancock Academy and was principal at Thunderbolt Elementary. She was also a devoted ??member of White Bluff United Methodist Church and volunteered with various groups.



She loved her family, friends, colleagues and students and it was a rare occurrence when out and about in Savannah with her that someone did not call out her name. She also lived for many years on the intercoastal waterway and enjoyed puttering around in a Carolina Skiff and sharing her knowledge of the marsh and its grasses and sea birds.?? Shannon was always game to try anything and would answer yes to whatever activity was proposed to her without any details being provided.



Shannon was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, John Butler, her son, Russell Floyd of Savannah, GA ??and her daughter, Jenny Floyd Owen (Trevor) of Atlanta, GA; and her grandchildren, Evan Floyd, Collin Floyd and Carson Floyd of Savannah, GA and Alexa Owen and Jake Owen of Atlanta, GA; ; and siblings Cary S. Maxwell, Dale V. Scott and Lynn S. Scott of Augusta, GA.



Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022 from 11:30 -12:30 with the funeral service at 12:30 ??at Gamble Funeral Home, 410 Stephenson Ave, Savannah.



In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation in memory of Shannon Floyd Butler.
