SGT Russell 'Russ' Martin Wilkinson, United States Army (Ret.), 57, of Savannah, Georgia, died Monday evening, August 10, 2020, at his home.
Born in Brunswick, Georgia, he was a son of William Guyton Wilkinson and the late Helen Schuster Johnson. Russ retired as a Sergeant in the United States Army after serving as a Combat Medic with the 82nd Airborne Division. He enjoyed playing and teaching chess, playing golf, and playing pool. Most important in life to Russ was his love and devotion for his children and grandchildren.In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dale Sorrells.
Survivors include two daughters, Jamie Wilkinson Gonzalez and her husband, Joseph, and Brittany Wilkinson Chandler and her husband, Jeremy; five grandchildren, Brena Gonzalez, Matthew Gonzalez, Joseph Gonzalez, Ellie Chandler and Evelyn Chandler; his father and step-mother, William Guyton Wilkinson and his wife, Chris; one brother, Nelson Wilkinson and his wife, Robin; nieces and nephews, and his aunt and uncle.
The Celebration of Life, with full military honors, will be held at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon, August 15, 2020, in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue, with the family receiving friends afterwards until 2:30.
