PORT WENTWORTH, GEORGIA??-??SFC Roderick Frank 'Rod' Evans, U.S. Army (Ret.), 79, of Port Wentworth, Georgia and husband of Barbara Hope Schwartz Mikell Evans, died Wednesday morning, August 15, 2012, at Hospice Savannah.



Mr. Evans was born in New Jersey and was of the catholic faith. He retired from the U.S. Army having served in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Mr. Evans was a Mason, a member of the National Sojourners, the Shriners and was an avid golfer and fisherman.Surviving are his wife of four years, Barbara Hope Schwartz Mikell Evans of Port Wentworth, Georgia; one daughter, Rose Marie Babb; one son, CSM Michael Frank Evans, U.S. Army; three step-daughters, Heather Lynn Scott, Jamie Jill Nivins, and Betti Nowinski; one step-son, Lewis Mikell; one brother, George Evans; one sister, Gracie Ebbesen; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 9 until 10 o'clock Friday morning at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Friday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Dr. Samuel W. Watkins. Interment, with full military honors, will be held at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Glennville, Georgia.
