Sean Patrick McDonald, 52, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Teresa 'Terri' Maria Yates McDonald, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, June 5, 2016, at Hospice Savannah.
Born May 22, 1964 on Long Island in Manhasset, New York, he was a son of John James McDonald and Mary Ellen Collins McDonald. Sean started his military career in the United States Army and, while stationed at Fort Knox Kentucky, he met Teresa 'Terri' Maria Yates of Rineyville, Kentucky. He and Terri were married in July 1992 on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. After completion of his tour with the United States Army, he then continued his service in the United States Coast Guard (1991- 2005) and retired honorably as a Chief Boatswain's Mate. After his United States Coast Guard retirement Sean continued his love of working on the water. He captained ferry boats: Florence Martus, Juliet Gordon Low and Susie King Taylor for the City of Savannah CAT (Chatham Area Transit).
Surviving are his wife, Teresa (Terri) McDonald; one son, Keegan McDonald; his parents, John and Mary Ellen McDonald; three sisters, Dina, Eileen, and Meghan; one step-son, Matthew Winingham; two step-daughters, Sarah Hamnes and Jessica Ilardino, and five step-grandchildren, Jayden, Madalyn, Kyle, Lydia and Lucas.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend John R. Tran. Interment will be private.
