SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Sarah Haysman Lipkowitz, 86, of Savannah, Georgia, widow of Irving Lipkowitz, died Sunday afternoon, February 27, 2011 at Candler Hospital.
Born in Savannah, GA, she was the daughter of the late Esther Haysman. Mrs. Lipkowitz was a member of Congregation Agudath Achim and their Sisterhood. She graduated from Savannah High Technical School. After World War II and marrying Irving, they moved to Brooklyn where she was a bookkeeper in New York City. She and Irving lived in Brooklyn for six years before returning to Savannah to start a family. Sarah was an avid Mah Jong player but loved gardening She had true a green thumb and could make anything grow. But her true love was her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Meyer, Aaron, and Moses Haysman and one sister, Merial Levine.
Surviving are one son, Eric L. Lipkowitz, of Houston, Texas; one daughter Ilene L. Nedelman and her husband, Stephen of Nashville, Tennessee; two granddaughters, Samantha Erin Nedelman of Houston, Texas and Jamie Rene Nedelman of Washington, D.C. and her sister Celia Hirsch of Memphis Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11o'clock Tuesday morning at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Kenneth R. Leitner.
