Sara Crosby Wassner was born on October 25, 1936 - the third child born to James Nathan and Sarah Crosby. She grew up with her two older brothers, James and Bobby Crosby. She loved her life growing up on East 54th Street and was active in her church, First Christian Church on Victory Drive in Savannah. She was a graduate of Savannah High School in 1954. She graduated from Bolen's Business University in 1955 and worked as a legal secretary at a law firm, then for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and finally for over 25 years as the secretary of First Christian Church.
She met Alfred Wassner Sr. at a USO Dance and they were married on May 25, 1957 at First Christian Church. They were blessed with five children - Richard, Billy, Rose, Susan, and Alfred. Her family was the center of her heart and life. Alfred Sr. worked many years on the Railroad and preceded her in death on August 28, 2019.
She thoroughly enjoyed watching Yellowstone, Facebook, and spending time with her family. And she especially loved her days spent with her very special friends Allison James, Deborah Scott, and Melissa Greene.
The Lord called her home on Thursday, June 16, 2023 at the age of 86. In addition to her parents and husband, Sara was preceded in death by her brother James, her daughter Rose, her son Alfred Jr., as well as her grandson Austin and her great-granddaughter Amber. She is survived by her brother, three children, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 o’clock, Sunday morning, June 25, 2023, at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock, Sunday morning, June 25, 2023, in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service, conducted by the Reverend Billy Wassner. A private interment with family will take place at Forest Lawn Memory Garden.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions are directed to Shriner's Healthcare for Children Corporate Headquarters at 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr. Tampa, FL 33607.
