Samuel Scheer, 79, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Marianne King Scheer, died Thursday evening, September 15, 2016, at Memorial University Medical Center.



Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late William Scheer and the late Dora Gaspin Scheer. Sam was an active and devoted member of Congregation Bnai Brith Jacob, where he was a member of the Brotherhood. He was a member of Bnai Brith International. Sam graduated with honors from Commercial High School and attended Armstrong Junior College. He was a United States Army veteran having fought at the 'Battle of Fort Sill' in Oklahoma. In his early years, Sam trained in shoe repair and later took over the family business, Southern Shoe Factory, from his father. He retired from Levy Jewelers after 35 years as a salesman and gemologist. Sam was a strong advocate for Rambam Day School and the Jewish Educational Alliance. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family. Sam was known for his love of culinary arts, his wit and humor, and for his beautiful smile.



In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Morris Scheer, Isadore Scheer and Alex Scheer, and three sisters, Bertha Friedman, Celia Hirsch and Gertrude Barr.



Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Marianne King Scheer of Savannah, Georgia; two sons, William Scheer and his wife, Linda Adams Scheer, of Charleston, South Carolina, and Alex Scheer and his wife, Nora Bain Scheer of Pooler, Georgia; two grandchildren, Ilana Devorah Scheer and Joshua David Scheer, and a number of nieces and nephews.



The funeral service will be held at 10:30 o'clock Sunday morning at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Avigdor Slatus.
