Sam Guckenheimer Adler, Jr., 96, of Savannah, GA, peacefully passed on May 6, 2022, at Buckingham South, of natural causes.
Sam was a Savannah native, born to Sam G. Adler and Eleanor Grunsfeld Adler in 1925. He graduated high school at Deerfield Academy, served in the Navy in World War II, graduated University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Commerce and Finance, and then worked for Bloomingdale\'s in New York City and Spiegel\'s in Chicago. In 1952 he joined the family business, The Leopold Adler Company (Adler\'s for Quality) and became President and Owner in 1959.
Sam was a civic leader. He was instrumental in his support of many of Savannah\'s organizations including the Savannah Symphony, Downtown Merchants Association, Saint Joseph\'s Hospital, Telfair Academy of Arts and Science, Savannah Chamber of Commerce, and the American Red Cross. He also participated on an international trade mission to the Netherlands for President John Kennedy.
Sam loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisher, hunter, horse rider, and tennis player. During his retirement he loved to travel both worldwide and within the US. He returned to Savannah in 2019.
Private services were held on May 9th.
