S. "Jerry" Brannen

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Solman Jerrel "Jerry" Brannen, 74, of Savannah, Georgia, husband of Lonnette McGowan Brannen and owner of Brannen Construction Company, died Saturday morning, October 10, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Born in Glennville, Georgia, he was a son of the late Olney Stephen Brannen and the late Stella Wells Brannen. Jerry was a member of Islands Christian Church. He was a United States Air Force veteran having served in North Africa during the Korean Conflict. Jerry began his construction career in the 1960's and has owned and operated Brannen Construction Company since 1981.
He was a member of Ancient Landmark Lodge #231 A. & F. M. and the Scottish Rite. Jerry became a member of Alee Shrine Temple in 1978 and was the only person ever chosen twice to be Shriner of the Year, once in 1988 and again in 2005. He was a past president of the Mounted Patrol and the Dune Cat units and was currently serving as treasurer of the Dune Cat unit. Jerry was Chief Aide in 1990 and served on the Aide Corp through 2005. He served on the culinary committee for many years and was chairman numerous times. Jerry was also a member of the Tybee Light Shrine Club and a member of the Royal Order of Jesters Court 31.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Brian S. Wilder, and a brother, Thurmond Brannen.
Surviving are his wife of 26 years, Lonnette McGowan Brannen of Savannah, Georgia; one daughter, Michelle Barrow and her husband, Bennie, of Ellabell, Georgia; two sons, Stephen Brannen and his wife, Sherry, of Richmond Hill, Georgia, and John L. Wilder and his wife, Carol, of Savannah, Georgia; five grandchildren, Sarah Brannen, Jesse Barrow, Scott Brannen, Josh Barrow and Olivia Wilder; one sister, Esteen Zettler of Savannah, Georgia; one brother, Charles Brannen and his wife, Mary, of Savannah, Georgia, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Tuesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend John LaMaison. Interment will be in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park - East.
