SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Ruth Smalheiser Sadler, 87, of Savannah, Georgia, widow of Barney Lee Sadler, died Wednesday evening, January 4, 2012, at Hospice Savannah.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Sander Smalheiser and the late Miriam Konter Smalheiser. Mrs. Sadler grew up in Hastings on Hudson in New York and moved to Savannah in the 1950's after her marriage to Barney. She was a member of Congregation Agudath Achim. Mrs. Sadler worked for many years along with her late husband in their family business at The Foodtown Super Markets. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Mrs. Sadler was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending summers at Tybee Island with her family. In addition to her husband and her parents Mrs. Sadler was preceded in death by her brother, Lawrence Smalheiser.
Surviving are one daughter, Lynne Sadler Levine and her husband, Mark; three sons, Alan Sadler, Gary Sadler and his wife, Tara, and Kenneth Sadler and his wife, Jodi, all of Savannah, Georgia; eleven grandchildren, William, Brett and Marissa Levine, Eva, Lauren and Phillip Sadler, Scott and Bari Sadler, and Rose, Beth and Barney Sadler and one brother, Marvin Smalheiser of Los Angeles, California.
The family would like to thank all of the many caregivers over the years that assisted Mrs. Sadler, the caregivers of Azalealand Nursing Home, and especially Sherry Collins.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Friday morning, at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Kenneth R. Leitner.
The family will sit Shiva at 407 King Arthur Lane, Savannah, Georgia 31405, through Wednesday evening, January 11, 2012.
