Rudolph "Sonny" Thorpe,

d. November 13, 2021

Rudolph Edmund 'Sonny' Thorpe Jr. died on November 12, 2021. ??A lifelong resident of Savannah, Sonny was born on May 8, 1936 to the late Rudolph Edmund and Rosa Lee Foster Thorpe. He was a graduate of Darlington School, Rome, GA and Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

He is survived by his loving wife, Amy Dale Gabriel Thorpe; daughter, Amy Thorpe Tisovec and her husband Phil of Park City, Utah and son Foster Slade Thorpe and his wife Judy of Middleburg, VA.

A graveside service will be held in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery on Thursday November 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. The service will be conducted by The Reverend Gavin G. Dunbar of St. John's Episcopal Church.

Professionally Sonny was a Senior Project Manager in mill engineering at Union Camp/International Paper.

Sonny's love for engineering was reflected in his hobbies and past times. He worked alongside his wife, Dale, designing and building Sa-Hi Stables and mending the fences, planting trees for the Savannah Tree Foundation and providing boat rides to Wassaw Island for the Caretta Research Project or the Georgia Conservancy. He loved his time on the dock in Bluffton, walks on the sand bar in the May River, and attending many musical performances of the Savannah Music Festival and various Savannah Philharmonic. Even though Sonny let Dale and Amy put him up on a horse every so often, his true passion was golf, and he was able to talk about Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods even as his memory disappeared.
