Rose Marie 'Reesie' Weed Summerlin, 88, of Savannah and widow of William 'Billy' Bowen Summerlin, died Sunday evening, March 8, 2020, at Bryan County Health and Rehabilitation.
Born in Manchester, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Archie Lee Weed and the late Ruby Jewel Weed. Before leaving Manchester, she received an award for Superior Shots in basketball. Out of all who competed, including all the boys, she won 1st place. She later moved to Hinesville, Georgia with her family and then to Savannah to start a life of her own. Marie was the Administrative Assistant to the President of Candler Hospital, John Andre. Always great with numbers and accounting, she worked for many small businesses as a bookkeeper. She also spent many years working with Taylor Rental and The Savannah Trade Exchange.
Marie 'Ressie' was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Savannah. She was a very beautiful lady inside and out. A true southern belle that would need Billy to explain certain types of jokes to her. She loved the social life of being married to one of Savannahs most loved, Billy Summerlin. She was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt, sister and cousin to all her family. She loved style always enjoyed getting dressed up for any occasion. One of her favorites was the annual Chatham Artillery Ball and any reason to get dressed up and go dancing, she loved to dance. Even in jeans and a sweatshirt she could be on the cover of Vogue. She really had that certain style and it was so natural for her. To her grandchildren she was lovingly known as Grammie.
Survivors include her two daughters, Tracie Marie Powell and her husband Charles A. Powell of Rincon, Georgia, and Lucia Lee Epperson and her husband Mark A. Epperson of Elkins, West Virginia; grandchildren, Jennifer 'Jenna' M. Powell of Arvada, Colorado, Mark Alan Epperson of San Antonio, Texas, Loralee A. Carpita of Richmond, Virginia, William Bowen Epperson of Clarksville, Georgia, Taylor Leigh Epperson of Elkins, West Virginia and Luke Andrew Powell of Rincon, Georgia; greatgrandchildren, (twins) Peyton Grace and Isaac Chase Epperson of San Antonio, Texas, Harper Lee Carpita of Richmond, Virginia, and Ariel Rose Powell of Rincon, Georgia; sisters, Lenora Downs of Hinesville, Georgia, and Audrey Tarver of Wadley, Georgia; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Thursday evening, March 12, 2020, at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah.
The memorial service will be held at 7 o'clock Thursday, March 12, in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by the Reverend Mark A. Epperson. She will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Cemetery with her husband, William Bowen Summerlin during a private family ceremony.
