Rolland Mitchell Smith, 46, of Jonesboro, Georgia, died Saturday afternoon, July 6, 2013, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, and baptized at BullStreetBaptistChurch, he was a son of Mary Quarles Smith Bruce and the late John Rolland Smith. Mitchell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. He was a land surveyor for Bostwick, Duke, Harper & Worthy, Inc.
Survivors include his wife, Christina Madden Smith of Jonesboro; his mother and step-father, Mary Quarles Smith Bruce and Jack L. Bruce of Jonesboro; a brother, Brian McNeill Smith and his wife, Beth, of Garner, North Carolina; three step-sisters, Teresa Lites and her husband, Dan, of Westin, West Virginia, Cheryl Street of East Point, Georgia and Anita Dalton of Stockbridge, Georgia; one niece, Amanda Smith; two nephews, Ethan and Austin Smith, eight step-nieces and step-nephews and several loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mitchell is known for caring for and sharing with others. He continues to give to others as an organ, tissue and bone donor.
The family will receive friends from 3:30 until 4:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the chapel of the First Baptist Church ' 128 College Street, Jonesboro.
The funeral service will be held at 4:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the chapel of the FirstBaptistChurch, Jonesboro, conducted by The Reverend Hinton H. Harris, music by Hugh Waddy. The interment will be at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park ' East - 1600 Wheaton Street, Savannah.
