Robert Ellis Rushing, 68, died on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Spanish Oaks Retreat after a heartbreaking battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Spanish Oaks Hospice.
Robert was a member of First Baptist Church of Rincon and a former member of Calvary Baptist Temple.
Robert was born on January 20, 1945 and graduated from Savannah High School and Southern Polytechnic Institute in Marietta, GA.?? Robert was also a member of the Army Air National Guard 165th unit.
Robert was a supervisor for Stone Smurfit Container, MacAljon and Kerr McGee.?? He was also a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 188.
Robert is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sandra Splawn Rushing; his daughter, Kellie Rushing Lee and her husband, Rick; his son, Robert Brantley Rushing of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Blake, Bryson and Brett Lee; three sisters, Mary Alice Rushing Jones (George) of Washington, Pennsylvania, and Cheryl Rushing Davies (Cabe) and Kathy Rushing Oliver, all of Alpharetta, Georgia; his brother, Thomas Rushing (Yvette), and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 Sunday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Dr. Bob Rogers and The Reverend David Cleland. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
