Robert Russell Moore

d. July 24, 2010

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Robert Russell (Bob) Moore of Savannah passed away on July 21, 2010, at age 80.
Bob was born on July 8, 1930, in Chattanooga, Tenn.  His parents were the late Russell E. Moore and Floy Bragg Moore. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Moore Cason of Pensacola, Fla. He is survived by his younger sister, JoAnne Moore DeSha, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; three nephews; two nieces; one great niece; two great-great nephews; several cousins, and many wonderful friends.
Bob was graduated from Central High School in Chattanooga in 1948, and he attended the University of Chattanooga. He served two tours of duty in the U.S. Marine Corps.
For most of his career, Bob was a professional bartender in Savannah where he worked at the Boars Head Restaurant, the Savannah Yacht Club and the Chatham Club. His many friends and customers remember his congenial, outgoing personality.
Bob's hobby and passion was genealogy.  For decades he researched family histories for himself and for friends.  He spent countless hours doing computer research of census records as well as visiting county courthouses, graveyards and U.S. Archives facilities. His research enabled him to trace his immediate family to the time of the American Revolution.
Bob was an avid reader and had a lifelong interest in learning. Even during his last years he continued to say he learned something new every day.  He never met a stranger and loved to talk to everyone.  He was known by his many friends and acquaintances as Mr. Bob.
He maintained a positive outlook, despite the challenges and adversity he faced, having survived two bouts of cancer.  In his later years, he ended every message with "Que sera sera (whatever will be, will be). He had an abiding confidence in and relationship with his "Deus absconditus," the hidden God. He was a loving and generous son, brother and uncle.
He was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by those who knew him.
