Robert Echols 'Bobby' Igou, Jr., 71, of Rincon, Georgia, husband of Emma Lee Joseph Igou, died Friday afternoon, April 24, 2015, at his home with his family at his side.
Born in Baxley on September 17, 1943, he was one of 7 children of the late Robert Echols Igou, Sr. and the late Hattie Clark Igou. Mr. Igou was a 25 year employee of Byrd Brothers Supermarket and the owner of Rincon Refrigeration before retiring twelve years ago. He took great pride in serving his customers, and as his grandson Tyler said, 'he was a hard worker and would do anything for anyone.' Pa Bobby, as he was known by his grandchildren, used to say 'I don't want a penny more than I need'. Bobby did what he wanted in life, and that was to help people. He loved to fish, and some of his fondest memories are fishing with good friends at Bowen's Pond. He loved bringing Emma, Robin, and his grandchildren there, and sparked a lifelong love of fishing in his grandson, Ashley, that he has since passed to his son Ashton. He loved his grandchildren, and knew he could count on them for anything, especially from Chad, who lives next door.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny, and his sister, Donna.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Emma Lee Joseph Igou of Rincon; his daughter, Robin Hussey and her husband, Tom, of Savannah; his sister, Wanda Cottrell and her husband, Roger, of Spencer, West Virginia; three brothers, Austin Igou and his wife, Shirley, of Vidalia, Allen Igou and his wife, Elouise, of Bloomingdale, and Lavon Igou and his wife, Nell, of Rincon; three grandchildren, Chad Helmly of Rincon, Ashley Helmly and his wife, Tina, of Rincon, and Tyler Helmly and his wife, Meredith, of Chatham County; five great-grandchildren, Ashton, Hunter, Connor, Jase, and Emma; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all their friends who were there in their time of need, but especially Wanda, Roger, Lavon, and Amy.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 o'clock Sunday at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Monday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Jackie D. Gordon. Interment will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
