Bob was born on December 10, 1954 in Glens Falls, New York.?? He moved to Savannah as a child where he graduated from Jenkins High School and from Savannah State College in 1992.
Bob was an aspiring professional bowler when in 1979 at age 24, a tragic accident left him paralyzed from the neck down.?? Confined to a nursing home for ten years, he fought for his own right to live independently and served as an example to others.?? He went on to become an effective advocate for the disabled.
As an active member of 'Living Independence for Everyone', an advocacy organization for disabled people, he served as a peer counselor and provided information and referral to other people with disabilities.?? The group met monthly for four years at St. James Catholic Church, and as a result of their efforts fourteen people were able to establish better, more independent lives.?? In sharing his own story, Bob helped shape the thinking for state leaders responsible for creating public policy in the realm of services for persons with disabilities in Georgia.
Bob was an avid fisherman, although he didn't actually catch many fish.?? He was philosophical about it however; it was the experience and the tranquility that he treasured.
