Robert 'Bob' Norton Doty, Sr., 82 of Savannah, Georgia and widower of Stacy Lee Story Doty, died Friday afternoon, April 22, 2016, at his home.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Irving Wakeman Doty, Sr. and the late Margaret Deas Williams Doty. Bob was an active member of White Bluff United Methodist Church. He was a United States Navy veteran having served aboard the USS Missouri and the USS Newport News. Bob retired as a switch operator at the Riverside Power Plant for Savannah Electric and Power Company (SEPCO). He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Bob was a kind and gentle man who loved spending time with family. He was giving and humble ' always thinking of others. Bob will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and church family.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his biological mother, Queen Victoria Hiers; two sons, Michael Lee Doty and Robert 'Bobby' Norton Doty, Jr.; a grandson, Terry Wilson 'T. J.' Floyd, Jr., and a brother, Irving Wakeman Doty, Jr.
Surviving are two daughters, Vicki Driggers of Savannah, Georgia and Debbie Floyd of Port Wentworth, Georgia; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, JoAnne Kinard and her husband, Clyde, of Ruffin, South Carolina, and Margaret Doty Martin of Life Oak, Florida; two brothers, Cole Lawson and his wife, Rose, of Walterboro, South Carolina, and Jim Story of Atlanta, Georgia; his sister-in-law, Ollie Doty of LaGrange, Georgia, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Monday at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend John A. Haney. Interment, with military honors, will be in Bonaventure Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Doty, Richard Doty, Benjamin Driggers, Gabriel Walls, Jeremy Burr and Scott Montgomery.
