Robert William 'Bob' Boyden, 49, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Elizabeth 'Libby' Wertz Boyden, died Friday evening, August 30, 2013, in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
He was born on September 25, 1963, in Pensacola, Florida, the son of William Lester 'Bill' Boyden and Margaret Ann 'Peggy' Beindorf Boyden. Bob attended St. James Catholic School, Benedictine Military School, The University of Georgia, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and Georgia Southern University. He was Vice President of Boyden Custom Homes and owner of Bob Boyden Construction. Bob was a lifelong communicant of St. James Catholic Church, where he also served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. He was a soccer coach and assisted with various other sports at St. James Catholic School. Bob was a member of Forest City Gun Club, the Homebuilders Association, and the Georgia Bulldog Club. An avid outdoorsman, Bobby was a skilled marksman, deer and bird hunter, and fisherman. A devoted and loving husband, father, son and brother, he spent much of his time on the water, cooking, grilling, and being with his family and many friends, including his beloved dog, Gauge.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph Lester Boyden and Margaret Selease Boyden and William Beindorf and Estelle Beindorf; his father-in-law, The Reverend L. Allan Wertz, Jr., and his brother-in-law, Marlon S. Green.
Surviving are his beautiful family: his wife of 23 years, Elizabeth 'Libby' Wertz Boyden; two daughters, Brittany Elizabeth Boyden and Megan Wertz Boyden; his parents, Bill and Peggy Boyden; his sister, Janet Lynn Boyden; his mother-in-law, Phyllis L. Wertz; two sisters-in-law, Ann W. Green and Catherine W. Shearouse; one niece, Ansley C. Shearouse, and many aunts and uncles.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Monday at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue, with the rosary service being held at 7 o'clock in the funeral home chapel. After the rosary service, and in celebration of Bobby's life, the family will receive friends at the home of his parents, Bill and Peggy Boyden, 7 Wind Walk Lane.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning at St. James Catholic Church conducted by Father Mark J. Ross. Interment will be private. After the funeral mass, and in celebration of Bobby's life, the family will receive friends at the home ' 1 Stargrass Retreat.
