Robert 'Bob' John Binder, 89, of Bluffton, South Carolina and husband of Ursula Oberndorfer Binder, died Friday evening, November 2, 2018, at his home with his family by his side.
Born and raised in Downers Grove, Illinois, he was the only child of the late Gilbert Binder and Mildred Hoffman Binder. Mr. Binder served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Upon returning to the states, he received his Bachelor's Degree from Purdue University and his Master's Degree at the University of Detroit Mercy, before beginning a career at Chrysler Automotive as an engineer.
Robert met his wife, Ursula, in Detroit Michigan, and they were married on September 6, 1984, living in Michigan and Savannah, before moving to Bluffton, South Carolina. Affectionately known as 'Cocktail Bob,' he was an avid golfer who also loved to travel.
He is survived by his wife, Ursula Oberndorfer Binder; two daughters, Cindy Shellie and her husband, Mike, and Sharon Wright and her husband, Dave; a son, Robert Binder and his wife, Rhonda; step-daughters, Manuela Stinson, Diana Press and her husband, Michael, and Christina Schultz; extended family, Kim Meharg; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service, with military honors, will be at 11 o'clock Friday morning, March 8, 2019, at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
